Your sleeping habits today are cracking me up! I went up to my bedroom only to realize it got really quiet. I went to check on you and this is what I found:
It brought tears to my eyes. You're growing so fast.
Then, I was doing laundry and I put you on some laundry on the laundry table while I was folding and sorting clothes. I put a few from you that were still a little warm from the dryer and BAM! you're out again! You've never been like this before. Makes me giggle! (You sleep with yours eyes slightly open sometimes... you get that from your dad.)
Words can't describe how much I love and adore you.

No Oxygen!!!
Just a few updates! Cooper has been off oxygen for almost 72 hours! We're so proud of him! He has learned to suck his thumb on his right hand. He doesn't even like to take his binky anymore. He's talking more and more. He loves to bounce in his Jumperoo. He's a cutie!

NICU Follow-Up Program
You had a VERY LONG appointment today. It's through the "NICU Follow-Up Program." We met with a pediatrician, neurologist, physical therapist, nutritionist, audiologist, and social worker. I think that was all! We were there from 8:30 am until 1:00 pm.
Pediatrician - She sees nothing to be concerned about. A little tight, but overall, really good!
Neurologist - Thinks you're doing great! No real signs of your brain bleed. Wants your birthmark on your face checked because if a certain type of birthmark, it can mean there is something wrong in your brain. So, we will be going to a dermatologist to have that checked out. You reached for things and followed things well. You didn't cross reach, which is good, because sometimes those with brain bleeds will sometimes reach across to grad instead of using the closest.
Physical Therapist - Thinks she sees a slight favoring of your right side (common when you have a brain bleed on your right side). Nothing she's concerned about, but said we need to watch it. She thinks you might have an issue with your hip, but when she looked at you the test wasn't consistent so she isn't quite sure. So, we will be getting an ultrasound or xray of your hip to see if it tells us you're good or if there are problems. She gave us a few exercises to do with you after changing your diaper each time. She said you're a little stiff when we hold you up, meaning you don't just relax and let your legs bend, you stand. Also having to watch your ankles to make sure they are moving smoothly, and to watch your arms to make sure you're holding them both in instead of out. At one point while we were there, your right was in and relaxed, and your left was just hanging out wide so she said if we notice that to pull it back in. You followed, reached for, and played with things well. She also said to try our best to get you to have two 45 minute naps a day instead of all the little ones you take because your body doesn't release a growth hormone until you are asleep for that long!
Nutritionist - Said to aim towards 24 oz of formula a day (not 32 ounces like our doctor said) and eating cereal/baby foods twice a day (instead of 3 like our doctor said). She said the reason for this is you are considered a 4 month old, not a 7 month old. She's very happy with how you're doing. She said feedings is all about when you want it and how much you want and not to try to force you to eat. She's very happy with your habits, though. She said it's not a surprise that you don't get too fussy anymore when you want to eat. She said that is common for NICU babies. Sometimes it's extremely hard to find cues in NICU babies so if you haven't ate in 4 hours, to go ahead and try feeding you.
Audiologist - Hearing is still flat. Wants to see you in 3-4 months. Thinks having tubes in your ears will be a great thing if they don't drain in their own. Happy that the bones/nerves are fine and that there is no hearing loss in our family.
Social Worker - Happy that you're being taken care of and reminded me to plan things to look forward to each week and to interact with other adults. I'm already doing my best at that so we're both great!
Overall, great appointment. It was nice to have more eyes to check out how you're doing. Everyone thinks you're progressing very well. Physical therapist was even surprised that you were reaching for and holding toys already! We will go back again at your corrected age of 9 mo, 18 mo, and 2.5 years unless requested to come at other times.
It was also interesting to see all the other little ones there for their NICU follow-up. You could tell many had issues worse than yours and others that it didn't seem to affect too much. It also made me realize how lucky we are to have such a health baby boy. So proud of you! You're a fighter!

Father's Day
We had a wonderful day! We made daddy a card with your handprints and it say "I love you thissss much!" Daddy and I used to tell this to each other while dating (and still do on occasion). He told me he wants me to teach it to you so when he comes home from work you can do it. I thought we would start a little early and make the cute card! We made daddy Shepherd's Pie for dinner (his favorite) and we got him a certificate to do a round of indoor golf at a place where there is a big screen, they have nice clubs, and he can play at any golf course that he wants, too! We got this for Grandpa Frederiksen, too!

First Play Date!
Growing up, I didn't have close friends because we moved so much. I was very excited about buying a home in hopes that Cooper would have friends to grow up with. It was even better when we found out there was a little boy across the street almost Cooper's age. So...
You had your first play date with your future best friend today (at least I think you will be best friends)! His name is Sam and you two had so much fun! You kept playing with each other's hands, smiled, and talked a little. It was fun to see you interact. Mommy enjoys the time to talk with Sam's mom, too, so we both win! Hopefully next time we will get pictures!
We got home and you got a little fussy and I said "Are you sad we had to leave Sam?" and it sounded like you said, "Yeah!" You wore each other out cause now you're sleeping!
AND, you rolled over from your back to your belly today while I was folding laundry! Wahoo!

Our Wedding Day
Daddy and I remembered something the other day. We remembered that during our temple sealing the sealer told us that our CHILDREN (that's more than one) were there. Now that you're here, we realize that YOU were at our wedding. It makes us very happy to think about. You're the best!
Also, you started your first baby food yesterday... sweet potatoes. You LOVE them!

So Much Fun!
You're so much fun! I was going through your drawers putting stuff that was too small in a box. We thought we would try on some of your hats to see if they still fit. This is the only one that kind of still fit and you just look so cute in it!!!
We also gave you your first tub bath! You were very quiet. You just looked around and loved moving your legs in the water. So cute!
You and Uncle Cory... I just know he is going to get you in lots of trouble! He likes to do stuff that bothers me!

Things We Notice
You're getting bigger and smarter each day.
Some things we've noticed about you recently:
Some things we've noticed about you recently:
- You've learned how to rub your eyes with your hands when you're tired.
- You've learned to cry if we take your bottle out of your mouth before you consider yourself finished.
- You've learned that your toy will make noise and move it you wiggle and hit the toys.
- You're trying to hold your bottle on your own.
- You can now get your legs under you when on your tummy.
Health Updates:
- Still on your oxygen. You're off most of the day.
- Still haven't passed your hearing test. You were checked on Monday and the response was still flat. You are hearing, but not enough yet. It's muffled due to the fluid in your ears from your oxygen.
- On Monday, you weighed: 13 lbs 14.5 ounces!
Motherhood/Teacher:
I've been a little overwhelmed lately. I will be started a new job as a 2nd grade teacher (part-time) at a Title I school. I feel like I'm a new teacher all over again. I've had a hard time with the thought of leaving you with someone else, but we've found great friends to watch you. I've struggled with it daily lately. My emotions have been high, for many reasons. I hope you always know that I am here for you. I hope you know that I am your mother and that I am doing my best for you. I hope you know I didn't choose teaching over you. I love you. You mean more to me than anything. You are my life. You make me want to be a better person. Just always know that I love you and that I am here for you.
Caught you, Daisy, and Grandpa Todd the other day....

My Little Man
Some pictures of you in your blessing suit. It's all you would let me get! You look so handsome and big!
You had another hearing test today and didn't pass. Still flat which means you still have fluid behind your ears.

Blessing Day
Cooper, today was a wonderful and beautiful day. You were so good all day. You were awake and quiet during your blessing (Grandpa Frederiksen said you were justa kickin’ your legs). Daddy gave you your blessing. Everyone thought you were so cute (and it’s completely true)! We thought you looked like a little temple worker in your suit. Daddy blessed you that you would know that the Lord has been with you from the beginning. He blessed you that you would be a missionary and so many other things. It was short, simple, and to the point. We hope you always know how much the Lord loves you.
Mommy’s Testimony: I hope you know that He is always with you. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true church on the earth. I know that Thomas S. Monson is a living prophet on the earth today. He receives revelation from the Lord that helps guide us in these days. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet. I know the Book of Mormon is true and that the things inside of it help us learn about our life. It is for our day. It is another testament of Jesus Christ. I know that you were born three months early for a reason. I may never know why, but Cooper, more than anything, I know the Lord needed you here for something. You are a child a God. He loves you. He knows you. He will help you through everything. Keep him close. Live the gospel standards. I love you and am so proud to be your mom.
Those in Your Blessing Circle: Daddy, Grandpa Joel Frederiksen, Grandpa L. Todd Smith, Uncle Cory Tinajero, Great-Grandpa Larry Smith, Great-Uncle Ralph, Cousin Aaron Allen, and a person from the bishopric.
People Who Attended Your Blessing: Me & Daddy, Grandma and Grandma Frederiksen, Aunt Rachel & Camille, Grandma and Grandpa Smith, Great-Grandma & Great-Grandpa Smith, Uncle Brandon Cory Tinajero, Aunt Johnnie & Uncle Harry, Great-Aunt Celeste and her kids Brielle, Abbey, Kade, and Elsie, Cousins Heather Frederiksen, Elizabeth & Aaron Allen and their little guy Quinn, Great-Uncle Ralph and Great-Aunt Lori Frederiksen, Great-Aunt DeAnn Jones and cousin Michelle Jones, Ben & Mandee Wheeler and their two boys Tucker and Gavin, and “Uncle” Huu Tran.
Those Who Later Came to Your Luncheon (in addition to those above): Great-Aunt Lisa, Cousins Shaylynn Robison, Brooke Peacock and her new little girl Hailey, Great-Aunt Jodean and Great-Uncle Adam Child and their kids Daniel, Katherine, and Jamie.

Swimming!
On May 30th, Daddy and I took your tub outside and put some water in it and put on your swimming trunks! You LOVED it! We have a great video of you kicking and splashing in the water. This is the only picture we got:

Sports Fan Already
I ran upstairs to get your bottle and I came back to this:
Daddy was teaching you all about soccer and you were intently watching. You love watching it with us! Go REAL Salt Lake!
UPDATED: The day following this picture, we were at Grandma and Grandpa Frederiksen's house. You were on Grandpa's lap and he had soccer on. Anytime the game was on, you stared at it. When the commentator or a commercial came on, you just looked away. As soon as the game came back on, you were watching again. You're gonna be a soccer player!

Our Little Turtle
I've been reminiscing over the experience we had to get you here. It brings tears to my eyes and smiles to my face. It's amazing how much our life has changed since you've arrived, but in such a great way. There is so much joy in our life.
I thought I'd share the first picture daddy and I ever saw of you. We thought you looked like a little turtle. Everyone said this was the best picture they saw of a baby for the first time.

Natural Medicine
You're natural medicine, Babe! I can have a horrible day and as soon as I see your face and hold you, it's like nothing happened. You make everything better.
Something we've noticed about you lately: you love to rub your feet together. You get that from me!

Solid Foods!
You tried rice cereal for the first time today. At first, you kept pushing it out with your tongue and it was ALL over your face! Then, you started to get the hang of it and would suck it off the spoon and we could hear you swallowing. By the end, it was all over your face, but you finished it and then drank your bottle. You're growing up so fast! I can't believe you're already eating solid foods!
You also LOVE this ball! You can throw it (though not intentionally) and love to suck on it.
Your hair is also growing! It's so cute!

6 Month Stats
You're getting so big! You weight 12 pounds 11.5 ounces. Your length is 24.21 inches long (which is in the 1% of a normal 6 month old) and your head circumference is 16.2 inches (which is in the 3% of a normal 6 month old). It's crazy that you're even on the charts of a 6 month old since you were 3 months preemie! The doctor is very pleased! You are starting to teeth on your bottom left as we had expected. RSV season appears to be over so we can have people around and take you shopping with us and stuff. I'm super excited! We can also start you on solid foods! We're going to try cereal and then after 3-5 days we will introduce you to a food! Yum! It's going to be a whole new experience for the both of us! We also hope to bless you next month on Fast Sunday. Keep up the good work, Buddy! We love you!
- Still rolling over belly to back.
- Starting to pull yourself forward to sit up.
- Love playing with toys and putting them in your mouth.
- Drooling tons!
- Sleeping through the night most nights.
You're a VERY happy boy!

6 Months Old
My Little Coops, you're six months old! I can't believe how fast you've grown! You've been such a joy to raise. It's been tiring at times and not always easy, but always worth it. Even at three in the morning, I can't help but smile because you are so excited to see me. You have your six month appointment tomorrow. I can only imagine how much you way and how proud the doctor is going to be! You're doing amazing!
You had a physical therapist come to visit you today. She feels you don't need physical therapy. She is shocked that you had a stage 4 brain bleed. She said you don't show any signs of that affecting you thus far, which is amazing. She thinks you're doing great! Hearing lady came as well and says you're responding well so you're good to go! We'll see how your appointment goes tomorrow.
Happy 6 month birthday! You're HALF A YEAR old!!!! Holy cow!!!

Mom, Mommy, Mother
Happy Mother's Day to Me!!! Today was my very first Mother's Day. It was wonderful. We started the day with delicious crepes... Daddy's specialty. You had a card for me and a flower to wear to church. (I laughed at Daddy because he wrote "Rachelle" on the envelope and I told him you would have wrote Mommy. We had a little laugh.) Then, we went to church with Grandma Frederiksen. You behaved pretty well. You got tired and got a little cranky, but you fell asleep and were fine. Great Aunt Johnnie got to hold you. She said it made her Mother's Day. It was your first Sunday. It couldn't have been a better day to do it! I loved having you there and us being together. Then, we went and saw Grandma Smith and spent some time with her. Then, we went back to Grandma Frederiksen's and had a yummy dinner and you got to meet more family.
This is what I came into the kitchen to this morning... made me laugh. So cute!
How was my Mother's Day? Fantastic. I absolutely love being a mom. I love being a mom to a boy. I was so scared when I first found out. I felt so inadequate. Once you arrived, I knew it would be great and it has been. You're a great baby. I love it every time you smile. I love knowing that you love me and know me as your mother. There isn't a calling more fulfilling than that of being a mother. I feel so blessed.

Great Aunt & Uncle
You got to meet your Great Aunt T (Tracy Gates) and her son, Ronald Held, and Great Uncle Terry Call today. Aunt T was VERY excited to meet you. Had been asking for months. She was there the night you were born, too.
Baby Animal Days
I've been looking forward to taking you to baby animal days for two weeks! You had a lot of fun. The bunnies even got a smile out of you! One little girl wanted to look at you, the "real baby" instead of the baby animals. It was cute. We enjoyed getting to be out with you. It was a fun first family outing.
We spotted these three crazy animals...
You LOVED the bunnies.
We got to hold a bunny. You kept grabbing his fur and we would have to pry your hand off.

A Needed Update
Cooper, we've been so busy having so much fun that we haven't updated in a while! You're doing FANTASTIC.
- You're laughing and cooing and talking more and more!
- You're rolling from your belly to your back.
- You met your Great Uncle Van for the first time on Cinco de Mayo.
- Daddy and I took you to Lowe's one day and you were so good! You just looked around and sucked on your binky.
- You got your first cold four days ago. You're handling it well. Not too cranky.
- You are officially weened to formula. The transition was smoother than we thought it would be.
- You're in 3 month outfits. They are starting to get a little small, but 3-6 month clothes are too big.
- Daddy hit me with his elbow in his sleep the other night and I said "Ouch" and he said "Sorry, Mom." It made me laugh out loud. He called me mom. I realized my name is no longer "Hun" to your dad, it's "Mom." I love it!
- You love going on walks with Mommy and Daddy. You just fall asleep.
- You're playing with and holding toys more.
- You're drooling a ton! We think you might be starting to teeth.
- Today, you stared at Daisy, Grandma Smith's dog, and just smiled, and giggled, and talked to her. We aren't sure why you loved her so much, but you did! It was so funny watching you watch her!
We love you so much! We will never be able to tell you that enough. We will never be able to express to you how much joy and excitement you bring to our life.

Daddy's Graduation Day
Today is graduation day for Daddy! He's worked so hard to get here! He graduates with a Bachelors Degree in Integrated Studies. He focused on Business Administration, Marketing, and Sports Management. His paper will even get published and put into the library at Weber State University! You should be so proud of Daddy! For the first two years of our marriage, he was working full time in Salt Lake City, riding the FrontRunner to get there, interning at REAL Salt Lake ALL day on game days, and going to school full time. He's definitely earned his degree. We hope you always know the value of education and find something you love to major it. Daddy loves sports so this is perfect for him!

Short Changed
The past few days have been emotionally difficult for me on the inside. I haven't shared my feelings with anyone until tonight as your dad held me in his arms and I cried. I think I've been trying to push them away for a few days, but I couldn't any more. My whole life I have known I was sent here to be a mom. My whole life I looked forward to the day I would be pregnant. Lately, I've been thinking of my pregnancy and the whole experience we went through and I just feel short changed. Three months of something I looked forward to my whole life was taken from me. So many people say I am lucky I didn't have to deal with the issues of the last trimester, but I wanted that experience. I am sad that I didn't get to give birth to you vaginally. I'm sad that I missed out on 3 whole months of getting to experience you growing inside of me. I'm sad you wouldn't breast feed when you came home. I feel like 3 months of bonding was taken from us. I'm sad we didn't get to have newborn pictures taken. I am sad I didn't get to hold you on my chest when you were born or even remember you being born. Some days, it breaks my heart. However, I know that there is a loving Heavenly Father who for some reason felt you needed to be here early. I know he felt that I needed to miss the last three months of our pregnancy. I may never know why, but what I do know is that he knows me and he loves me, and us, and that he always takes care of us and knows what is best for us. I can't say that knowing this prevents me from wishing I still had those last three months, but it does help me to feel his love and know that everything really is okay.

Missing Daddy
You're such a smart kid. Lately you've started to pick up when daddy is supposed to be home. If he isn't home when he is supposed to be, you get extremely cranky. When daddy comes home, you're just fine. It's cute that you recognize he isn't home and want him, but you sure can scream! Silly boy! We love you!

You rolled over!
Scream! You rolled over last night all by yourself! You rolled from your belly to your back! I put you down for tummy time again tonight and you did it again! I yelled for dad and it happened so fast that he missed it! I was so excited the first time I kind of screamed and cheered and you looked at me like I was crazy!!!!
A nurse visited you today and says you're doing great! We're supposed to keep working on tummy time and work on you reaching for toys and following moving things. Doctor appointment tomorrow!

First Family Home Evening
Tonight for family home evening, we took a walk. It was the first time you were in your stroller. You loved it. You slept the whole time. We enjoyed the walk through our new neighborhood and are looking forward to many more walks! I got to go to our new ward on Sunday and loved it! It's going to be a great place to grow up!
Oxygen Update: You're off your oxygen most of the day right now. You're sleeping more which has me a little worried. You seem to sleep all the time. We visit the doctor on Friday for your 5 month appointment and see what she thinks then.

My New Favorite Picture
I love you more than anything. I love being your mom. It's the greatest blessing and calling in the world. I hope we're always close and you always know that I am here for you.

EKG
You had your EKG on your heart today to check your ASD (hole in your heart). You were hooked up to 13 cords. Before that, they took your blood pressure on both arms and both legs. Doctor said you're looking great! The hole is small enough that it should close within a few years. It isn't affecting you and shouldn't. When you saw her (Dr. Judd) you just cooed and smiled.

Your New Room
Your room is pretty close to being finished. I forgot how much you loved your bed until today... you took a nap all alone! That never happens! You laid in your bed and just enjoyed it. You love your new room and you love having your bed back!

You & Grumpa Frederiksen
Grandpa Frederiksen stays pretty busy because he's such a great guy and likes to help everyone, but he took a moment to hold you and this is what happened:
You're probably wondering how grandpa got the name "grumpa." Well, he was grouchy the day we we told Daddy's family we were expecting our first little one (he was worn out from cousin's camp). Your aunts immediately named his "grumpa." It stuck.

Keepin' Us on Our Toes
We love you, Cooper! You're keeping Daddy and I on our toes. It's hard to find time to update your story when we've been busy taking care of you, moving, working, and Mommy has been sick. We can't say enough good things about you. You just make us so happy.
- Your eyes are starting to turn more blue.
- You love to pucker your lower lip.
- You're a huge pooper! It's a blow out when it occurs!
- You're happiest in the morning. You love to talk and smile.
- We haven't heard you giggle again since the first time. We can't wait until it happens again!
- We painted your new room green and are putting up bead board.
- You still love to hold my finger when you drink your bottle.
- You LOVE gas drops. It's like candy to you when it touches your lips you quiet right down.
- You love morning snuggles, but you enjoy snuggling anytime!
- You've got your daddy's toes... where the second is bigger than the big toe.

General Conference
This weekend was the first time you got to hear the prophet speak. You behaved fairly well. Sleeping during some and screaming sometimes, too. It was our first experience with a baby and church. We found out it's hard to listen, but we'll figure it out. You couldn't go with daddy to priesthood, but I thought I would dress you up anyways.
